Who Was The Tinker?

The Tinker was an itinerate tinsmith who traveled a region, going from remote village to remote village making, selling, and repairing tinware. The Tinker did this before there were stores in these small villages, so he was a central player for these villages in many ways. He brought news of the region to the remote corners of the land. He shared stories he had picked up in his travels. He also found new ideas in one village and interpreted them for his customers throughout his territory.

The Tinker’s visit to a village was announced by the mode of his arrival. The outside of his cart was covered by his tinware hanging and clanking as he traveled the poor roads of these remote villages. Farmers with their flocks or tending their fields would hear the Tinker’s arrival and word would spread through the village like a wildfire.

Everyone went to where the Tinker set up his workshop, bringing their broken tinware and their requests for new products. He made his work a show, so he could carry on a conversation with the villagers while he did his work. During the show, he told stories and he described what he saw and heard in his travels. He was also able to show off new kinds of products (new technology) and sell them to his audience.

The Tinker’s sales process is a much more natural process than sales in a brick-and-mortar store in a city or a ‘virtual store’ on the Internet. Stores evolved because people were starting to live in growing cities and purchase and repair become more centralized and less nomadic. But, we humans evolved in an environment where the exchange of goods and services was a conversation. Based on the patterns resulting from how we evolved, we want to have our transactions be conversations. This is one of our basic human needs.

Conversational Marketing is at the heart of the curriculum at . Participants learn how to work with this basic human communication process to build relationships and build community in a market niche. Participants learn how to use this process to build their own online business based on information products they create for their market.

A Message From The Director

Hi, I am Rodger Bailey.

My background is in three distinct areas:

Computer: I started working with computers in 1966 and I had a 15-year career with IBM. My last task there was to create and operate a mentoring process for the software development staff of one of IBM's flagship Operating Systems (VM). The staff was growing from 90 to over 250 and needed all of the new programmers to become expert as quickly as possible. I have continued working with computers, software, networks, and online publishing.

Psychotherapy: I have degrees in Anthropology (BS, 1972, Fordham U), and Educational Counseling (MS, 1977, U of Bridgeport) and I have training and I have worked with many different therapeutic modalities, including TA, NLP, and TFT (In fact, I'm considered the developer of one area of NLP).

Developmental Consulting: My wife and I currently operate a private practice and my specialty is working with children (and adults) with developmental problems. We are developing a series of training programs which parents can use to learn how to get their own children developing appropriately.

Coaching and Organizational Consulting: When I left IBM in 1980, I started a consulting practice based on an interviewing/profiling instrument I developed from concepts in Chomsky's Transformational Grammar (1957, MIT Press). This instrument is the LAB Profile (Language And Behavior Profile) and provides a practical guide for understanding, predicting, and influencing behavior of individuals and groups. It is also a tool for understanding culture. I have taught the LAB Profile throughout the Americas and Europe in corporate and public training programs for more than 25 years (and, others have taught my LAB Profile all over the world, too). I continue my consulting, training, and coaching with the LAB Profile.

My 45 years of work experience and knowledge come together in the Tinkers Academy Training Program. Participants in are taught and guided as they learn the technical aspects of online social networking marketing. They are supported as they learn Conversational Marketing on the Internet. They are nurtured as they learn community building, market research, product creation, product launch processes, and how to organize and structure their business to create an ongoing, sustainable Internet business for themselves.

I hope you will enroll in this training program so you start being successful in using the Internet to get your message out. I have worked hard for many months developing this training program to help you learn and practice all you need to build and to grow your online business. This is an in-depth training program where you learn and use the basic concepts and techniques of Conversational Marketing as the foundation for your business. When you graduate from the program, your online business will already be up and running. And, you will know how to keep it growing.

I look forward to working with you.

Most Internet Marketing Products Will Not Help You

We have all purchased some hyped-up Internet Marketing product or program which did not deliver a successful outcome. We purchase them in hopes they will finally provide the solution we want. We are so often disappointed in these purchases.

Many Internet Marketing products are for some specific technique which might be part of an overall Internet Marketing strategy. But when used alone, without the rest of the strategy, they do not create an appropriate solution for ourselves.

Many Internet Marketing products are for things you do not want, because they rub-you-the-wrong-way or they are almost unethical. Many people are selling and others are buying and using techniques which do not feel right and we not want to use them in our business.

Many Internet Marketing products are for things which might work, but it all depends on what kind of Internet business you want to create. For instance, there are thousands of products out there whose only purpose is to make money (for me, making money is useful, but that is not my main Purpose).

Without a clear Purpose and without a clear strategy for achieving that Purpose for our Internet business, you will continue to flounder around without good results.

How Is The Tinkers Academy Training Program Structured?

Tinkers Academy Is A Free-Form Training Program

There are multiple modules covering the topics needed for success in online social network marketing. Each module provides a very specific process, tactic, or strategy for successful marketing in online social networks. Some are classes and others are services.

Some of the modules are free and others require payment. Participants are encouraged to start with the free programs because these represent the basic foundation of online social network marketing. Without these basics, you cannot perform or achieve appropriate results from the other modules.

All of the modules are supported by lessons and coaching. Many are also based on video examples. Others are supported by software.

A list of the modules is at the top of the left column. Those with live links are available for you to enroll and learn. The others are still under development.

Where Should You Start? You should enroll in the first two (free) programs. They are basic and you will need the concepts and skills being taught in the courses if you work in any way with online social networks.

Start the activities and begin building your resources for growing your business. Through conversation with others in the program and your study, you will discover your next steps in the program.
